Microneedling & Hair Regrowth

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling in Calgary is fast becoming the most popular skin care treatment in town.  With only a short downtime, it is used to treat and improve many skin conditions. Microneedling is also known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), skin needling or dermarolling.  Microneedling is a natural treatment that helps rejuvenate the skin without surgery as it works with your own body’s healing process as microneedles penetrate through the epidermis and stimulates a healing response.  A great alternative or compliment to botox, fillers and other cosmetic injectables if you are looking for a more natural and healthy alternative approach to skin care.  We offer the best microneedling in Calgary as we offer the highest end machine (E-Dermastamp) so our clients can achieve the most beautiful skin. We have an organic option available and advanced Stem Cell microneedling similar to PRP, which is great for maximum anti-aging benefits.

Microneedling can be used to treat things like reduction of wrinkles, pore size, scars, stretch marks and tighten loose skin!

EDermastamp Microneedling = the best!

We researched the best in Calgary for Microneedling machines and chose the best one we could find for our clients because we believe you deserve the best microneedling in Calgary.  EDermastamp was the first Health Canada approved machine in Canada and it is the best microneedling machine out there.  You can trust that when you come for your microneedling at Gelous Spa that we already did the research to bring you the very best treatment for you and your skin.

How Often Do I Need to Come?

For best results, it is recommended you do a minimum of 3 treatments, 6+ weeks apart.  Any earlier than 6 weeks is pointless because it takes the body that time to heal.  Some conditions will require further treatments, but this is a good starting point.

What Does Microneedling Do?

Microneedling can improve lines and wrinkles on the face, neck and décolletage, to address ageing due to sun damage and for acne scar resolution. It can also be used to treat other areas with things like as stretch marks, improved skin texture, skin tightness and we have also seen it help with congested skin. It is suitable for all skin types.

Microneedling treatments can be used for:

  • Tissue Regeneration

  • Skin Rejuvenation

  • Improved Skin Texture

  • Improved Collagen Production

  • Scar Reduction Therapy

  • Fine Lines And Wrinkles

  • Pore Size Reduction

  • Stretch Marks

  • Reducing Congested Skin

  • Acne Scarring

  • Skin Tightening

Contraindications

If you are generally healthy and don’t have any active skin diseases or infections in the area being treated, you will be fine to receive microneedling.  We can’t treat active Eczema, keloid scars, psoriasis and other chronic skin conditions. We do not treat over active acne, rosacea, other inflammatory conditions, over open wounds and we can’t treat patients with sunburns.  Please wait until it is healed before booking in. Pregnant and breast feeding women are advised to wait before commencing treatment.

Does it hurt?

A topical numbing cream is applied, so the microneedling treatment is comfortable for you and should not be painful at all.

Promote skin repair and reduce the appearance of aging, wrinkles, scars, & stretch marks Dermaroller® Micro-needling.

Beware of Imitations. Dermaroller® is the original device of it's kind. All other derma-rolling devices have been fashioned after the Dermaroller® and it's important to understand the differences.

Licensed by Health Canada

The Dermaroller® is licensed by Health Canada. There are countless imitation products on the market that are not licensed by Health Canada so we recommend you do your research, to protect your health and safety.

Certified Medical-Grade Equipment

The Dermaroller® is ISO13485 certified (certified medical device), meeting all standards for medical-grade equipment in manufacturing, materials, sterile packaging and more.

Safe Micro-Needles

The medical-grade micro-needles of the Dermaroller® are atraumatic (non-traumatic) cone-shaped needles that displace the skin during the puncture process, creating a micro-wound that seals within minutes of treatment. Poorer quality roller devices are made with knife-shaped needles that slice through tissue and risk causing traumatic skin, vessel and nerve damage. Poor quality needles also require increased pressure, making for a more painful treatment.

Non Ablative

Where other scar and anti-aging treatments are ablative (destroying tissue), the Dermaroller® respects the integrity of the epidermis and dermis, using atraumatic (non-traumatic) perforations to gently trigger the generation of new tissue.

Optimal Needle Count

Don’t be mislead by imitation rollers that boast “the most needles”. Though we want to maximize the number of perforations, too many needles compromises the safety and comfort of the treatment. Imagine a bed of nails: while a bed of nails can easily support your body weight without a nail perforating your skin, a single nail would easily penetrate your skin under the same pressure. Similarly, a roller with too many needles will require dangerous and uncomfortable amounts of pressure in order to penetrate the skin to the appropriate depth. The Dermaroller® employs the optimal number of needles to maximize effectiveness, safety and comfort.

Collagen Induction Therapy (Micro-Needling)

When it comes to minimally invasive treatments, Micro-needling Collagen Induction therapy with the Dermaroller® is clinically proven and is perhaps the most successful treatment available for the common signs and symptoms of aging such as wrinkles, loss of skin volume, and crepey skin. The Dermaroller® micro-needling treatment is even proven to minimize scars and stretch marks. Dermaroller® therapy triggers the body’s spontaneous healing process, stimulating cell proliferation and causing the formation of new collagen. This results in a thicker, more supple, cellular matrix. Results: visibly younger looking skin.

PROOF: The image shows a biopsy of the epidermis before and after micro-needling therapy. Significant new collagen (died purple) has been generated, 6 weeks after a single treatment.

How It Works

The Dermaroller® causes minimally invasive precision micro-injuries of the epidermis and dermis, without causing open wounds or ablative damage. The puncturing channels close after a short time and these micro-injuries trigger the body’s wound healing cascade, which induces an increased collagen production in the treated skin. Dermaroller® triggers the construction of new tissue by stimulating healthy cell regeneration in precision-targeted areas that show the signs of aging. It effectively reduces wrinkles, tightens and thickens the skin, and – perhaps most impressively – fills and smooths scars.

As we only see one client at a time, there is no need to feel embarrassed or nervous about seeing other people when you come in for your treatment. We see men and women for this condition all the time and our goal is to help you feel more confident with your new found hair! As we offer a variety of services, you could be coming in for a massage, facial or other treatment, so nobody will know that you are coming in for your hair loss service! The best time to stop thinning hair from getting worse and turning into complete baldness is now! We recommend the hair regrowth and restoration to stop your hair loss and thinning hair before it worsens and the hair is lost forever. If you have been looking for ways to stop your thinning hair, this is the perfect treatment for you and as we are based in central Calgary, it’s super convenient to get to.

Your treatment will require you to visit us weekly for 6 weeks and there will be home care instructions for you to follow, which is imperative to your hair regrowth success. There must also be an element of patience in this process as you aren’t likely to see the end results for a number of months following. However, once your treatment is complete there is no need to continue using topical solutions on your hair, so the long term investment is well worth it as the success rate of this treatment is very high!

We recommend you text us a picture of your scalp so we can let you know if you are a suitable candidate for the treatment. We will refuse treatment if we know it won’t work for our clients and we are completely honest and transparent about this.

Here are some before and after pictures of the treatment:

Our Treatment

We use our microneedling machine to penetrate the scalp to stimulate the hair follicles and nourish the scalp with special products that contain nutrients to help your hair grow back. As these micro-injuries on your scalp heal, your skin produces more collagen and fibers and it helps to strengthen the hair follicles as the hair grows back. Amazing hey? We use only safe, organic products so you can trust that you are safe in our hands.

The price per treatment is $400. However, we recommend purchasing our savings package of 8 treatments which make it only $360 per treatment that you can separate in a payment plan. Just ask and we will do our best to assist you. You will receive a home care kit to take home and use between your professional treatments with us, which is required for the best possible results.

Your scalp may be more sensitive to the sun after treatment, so we recommend you wear a hat to help protect your scalp when outdoors.

Hair Loss – Clinical Background

Hair loss is a common condition that affects both men and women. In the U.S and Canada, about 60% of men experience ‘Male-pattern baldness’, where up to 40% of women over 50 are affected by ‘Female-pattern baldness’. While hair loss may seem like an aesthetic issue, it is often accompanied by a significant negative psychological impact. Hair loss can also happen at the front of the scalp in men and women too.

Why Do We Lose Hair?

Hair loss is multi-factorial; we lose hair due to:

  • Natural aging of the scalp tissue

  • Sun exposure

  • Nutrient deficiencies

  • Harmful chemicals used for hair styling

  • Pollution

  • Diet & nutrition

  • And more

However, the scientific community widely acknowledges that the #1 factor of hair loss is hereditary imbalanced hormonal activity in our hair follicles – meaning, genes. Specifically, the blame is pointed towards one hormone called: Dihydrotestosterone, or DHT.
