Difference between Shellac and Gel (Bio Sculpture)

Gel or gel polish?  Shellac or Bio Sculpture?  Difference or no difference?  Yes, there is a difference.  Depending on your short/long term goals, strength of your nails etc. one is certainly a better choice over the other.  Let us explain…

Shellac/Gel Polish

CND Shellac was the master of the gel polish and was the first of it’s kind when it was created years ago.  Shellac promises a chip free polish for up to 2 weeks.  Many of our clients can go an extra week on top of that with extra homecare.  Shellac is a great choice for ladies (or men… yes we have had men requesting it in the past) who have strong, healthy nails.  It is not recommended for clients with peeling, damaged or splitting nails because for that we have Bio Sculpture!  Shellac is a great option for clear, colour and French and is particularly popular for special occasions such as weddings, vacations and parties.  Not just for the finger nails, this product can also be used on the toes for a long lasting finish for those beach holidays so toes will stay shiny and chip free for the duration of your vacation!  While it is certainly durable is not a nail strengthener and it cannot be used to lengthen the nails.  Cue Bio Sculpture!

Bio Sculpture/Gel

Bio Sculpture is very popular with our Calgary clients and is also recognized all over the world.  Bio Sculpture is the first, and to date, the only nail company to do Clinical Research on their product which is a soak off gel.  It is thin, durable, long lasting and some of our clients can wear it for up to 8-10 weeks using our home care kits.  Bio Sculpture offers protection to the natural nail and even encourages nail growth so it is perfect for ladies who want to grow out their weak, peeling nails or add length to the natural nails.  It comes in a variety of colours, but most of our ladies opt for a colour or French finish for a more natural looking nail finish.

To sum it up, if you don’t want length, have healthy nails and want nails for an upcoming occasion Shellac is likely your best bet.  If you want length, have weak, brittle or peeling nails then Bio Sculpture is likely the better option for you.

Still not sure if you should select Shellac or Bio Sculpture?  No problem, just email us at booking@gelousspa.ca and we can discuss your nails, goals and what we recommend for you.  We always provide a consultation at your first appointment so we can find out what your “nail dreams” are and hopefully make them come true!
